Disk Drill Media Recovery App Reviews

Disk Drill Delivers!

Well, I was pretty much inclined to give up on ever recovering lost data from my 3GB Seagate external drive. I’m a graphic artist, and I stood to lose large amounts of collected fonts, custom templates, specialized software, and, of course, many archived customer files. I tried many free recovery apps, to no avail, and wasn’t successful in even having the drive recognized by most of them. I found a link to Disk Drill’s home page through one of the forums I’d perused, and thought I’d take a shot at trying it. The Disk Drill software took its time, several hours, and did a thorough and complete job of recovering and saving the drive’s contents in its entirety. It’s been my experience that this software has proved reliable, indispensable, and a huge bang for the buck compared to any other disk recovery software out there. Five bright stars!

Just Terrible

Works fine if you want to recover standard files. But if it is an extension not supported by the software, it doesn’t work at all. I needed recover ev3 files. Well that isn’t a supported extension so I’m outta luck. $50 down the drain for me.

Easy Recovery

Disk Drill makes it easy to retore files on any hard drive your Mac can read. It really saved me a couple times after deleting files I thought I wouldn’t need!

Bait and Switch

I am really disappointed with this company. I spent $40 thinking I’d actually recover my lost files for that price. It turns out though that after 28 hours of scanning and revealing the lost files, I have to pay another $89 to be able to use those files.

Couldn’t even find .sketch files that we’re cleared from the trash 2 hours ago

I deleted a file accidentally and then cleared the trash from my mac. In a panic I purchased this product based on the reviews and ran the recovery tool. After running the deep scan the tool came back with 0 results on more than one occasion. I would love a refund because I feel like the “power” of the application is completely overstated.

Saved My Stuff!

I was terriefied I lost all my daughters baby pictures on one of my drives that was earased. Fortuantly I used this program and was able to recover them as well as some other important documents! This product is really amazing and would recomend it to anyone who thinks they might have lost files!

Recovers what other disk tools could not.

I’ve had a stack of corrupted hard drives that I’ve lugged around for years that contain old photos that could not be replaced. I’ve purchased and continually updated other disk utility tools that couldn’t mount them, let alone recover files from them. So you can imagine my surprise when Disk Drill mounted and recovered hundreds of missing and lost photos as well as files. Even the videos that were partially corrupted became openable and able to be partially saved.

App works as advertised

I was worried about previous reviews but found them to not to be accurate. I downloaded the app and was very happy with its performance. I high recommend this app for anyone needing to recover files. I did have to download the support file from the CleverFiles website but it was painless and everything just worked.

waste of money. NO IPHONE SUPPORT AT ALL.

Although the initial (run-on) sentence says that it works with mobile phones, Disk Drill doesnt work with the iPhone, which (given their claim to be Mac-friendly) would seem the obvious implication. Halfway down the rambling, grammatically incoherent entry, they do note that DD wont work on iPhone. But not in a way anyones likely to see. Throughout the documentation, the cutesy style pairs poorly with grammatical failures that frustrate comprehension for anyone who doesnt already know what the text intends. Some of the diagrams are clever, and well-realized. But I didnt purchase this for graphic design.

3 Times Thank You

I thought I had lost all of my photo when some how my iPhoto folded was deleted but thanks to Disc Drill Media Recovery I now have them back and you can believe that I will back them up from now on. There was a review that said that it would not scan the internal hard drive but I have a 4 TB hard drive partitioned in to two 2TB one is label OS X the other label Data the data partition is where my media is located and it recover all my photos I am Running 10.7.5 thank you thank you thank you!!

Wow...

So I browse your site and get interested in this app. After doing some research I decide to click the link and buy it. Well after doing so I discover it doesnt work with 10.8. Awesome job on making that CLEAR to the customer. Instead you buried that in the "More.." section of your description. This should be at the TOP.

An Amazing App!

I have to disagree with everyone having issues with recovering files from partitions and not drives. I have used this app very successfully from its first version to recover all manner of data. I just finished a very difficult recovery that took 12 days and used four different programs to recover over 834+ GBs (yes, GIGAbytes) of data from an external drive. The bulk of the recovery came from using Disk Drill Media Recovery (after tweaking the partition schemes and all kinds of other manipulations.) This app is essential for EXTERNAL drives. If you need to recover data from the internal drive, then you must get Disk Drill Pro, which is not available through the Mac App Store due to Apple restrictions on apps that work on the live system volumes. I love this app!

Quick, easy, and effective.

Disk Drill saved over 30 Gigs of photos including engagement pictures my fiance was melting down over. Worked great and the download on the site was easy and quick and it worked great with 10.8. The $40 was well worth it.

Terrible

This is only if you deleted files. Not for corrupted ones.

Worth the puchase!

After finding my USB drive had become corrupted, I remembered seeing a recent review of Clever Files app Disk Drill. I went to the website and downloaded a trial of it to determine if it would recover the files and found that it did exactly what was advertised. I then got it off the Mac App Store (after reading the description and reviews) to find that it would not recognize my USB drive right off the bat. I contacted Clever Files about this issue and received a VERY quick reply as to where to go to install a patch that would allow this to work. After doing this, Disk Drill Media Recovery FLAWLESSLY recovered my files. I do not work for Clever Files. But want to remind others in this review that limitations on what apps can do is due to the Mac App Store Sandboxing. This is not an issue with developers but with Apple. If you want to make sure apps have maximum security and minimal impact on your system, the Mac App Store is the way to go. But if you want full functionality of apps, the majority will have to be downloaded from developers websites. I will give this app a full five stars for fulfilling its promise (though with a small patch), quick response (thanks Kim!) and a great product. Thanks again!

Do Not Buy

Currently This does not work as advertised. You will be better off buying their $80 software from the website. This does not work on local drives and some external drives under Mavericks. Didn’t try it on Mountain Lion. Customer service told be that I basically had a trial version which even when it can find a mounted drive, will not let you actually recover the files, it only shows you the deleted files. Hopefully they update this soon. Very disappointed. Luckly I was able to recover my lost photos another way.

Worked for me

It took a while, but it was able to restore the family photos I accidently deleated a few weeks ago.

dont buy it

fake app

One star for terrible customer service

I emailed customer support with a question and “Kim” replied, "Why would you purchase a completely different version and edition of Disk Drill after you completed a scan? The sessions in Disk Drill 2 and Disk Drill Media Recovery are not compatible. ….” Not only did this have nothing to do with my problem at hand, it was , by far, the worst reply to a customer service request I have ever gotten. According to their own site, Disk Drill basic is designed to scan and see if their is a chance of recovering what ever happens to be lost on a drive. So, I downloaded basic from their sight and allowed that program to scan. After seeing my files and being able to preview them, I then download Disk Drill Media recovery from the mac app store to do the actual recovery. Since the “recovery” button was greyed out, I wasnt sure if it needed to scan again, a process that took 24 hours the first time (lots of photos) So I emailed support to see if I could just start the recovery. I was then sent that reply.

I got ripped off. Dont be like me.

The app does nothing. There - I just saved you $40. Now click "Yes" on "Was this review helpful?" and earn good karma.
